My best time going to Ethiopia- By Helina

 My holiday to Ethiopia!

On November 30th, 2018, I went to Ethiopia. I went from Auckland to Singapore and then Singapore to Addis Ababa Airport. On the plane, I knew I had an enjoyable, and relaxing time because when my sister asked me where my mum was, I forgot that we were on the plane, then I sad and said ¨maybe she is outside¨, my sister laughed at me, ¨why are you laughing at me¨ I said, then she said ¨why would she be outside were one a plane remember she can be outside¨, I forgot that we were on a plane, ha haha. The food was great and I watched plenty of movies. When I finally arrived at the Gonder Airport from Addis Ababa, I saw my Dad's brother. He looked so much like my dad. His name was Abebe. I was very confused for a minute, but then I got used to him.

I asked my mum where we were going to stay, and she said we were going to stay with our uncle. When I got to their house, I was exhausted. But then I met my cousin Soliana, the cutest and smartest 2 years old I have ever met before. I also met my aunties and uncles. I made a lot of friends. To be honest, Ethiopian people and kids are very kind.

We also went to one other city,  Bahir dar, and it was AMAZING!!! And VERY interesting. I went to Lake Tana. It is the largest lake in Ethiopia.  I went on a boat tour and we saw a person on a kayak, and he was holding a big bag full of fish. I said “Selam”, and he replied “Selam” too, and that means hello in Ethiopian. And also the person was feeding lots of white pelicans. They must be really hungry, I said. I also saw some hippopotamuses. When I tried to see them they just peak their noses up and then go straight back into the water. It was very obvious that the hippo is very long and huge. There are 37 islands around Lake Tana, 20 of which are churches and monasteries, historical and cultural. We went to about 4 of them. We also bought some souvenirs, I got a T-shirt and some traditional necklaces. After our tour we stayed at the Bahir Dar Grand Resort and Spa. The hotel was enormous and high class. When I looked down to the ground I was amazed at the long spiral staircase. When I got to my uncle's house in Gonder I made a lot of friends.

I went back to Gonder after a few days. On Wednesday, 19th of January, in Ethiopia we celebrate the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan. It is called timket. Before timket people fill the castle ground with water.  Then on the day the priests come and bless the water and after people can swim in holy water. It was so beautiful, there were bright lights decorated on the castle and our flag was hung on it too.
I went with my whole family and we saw the people singing. The people laid a very long red carpet for the important priests to come. Because there were so many people there we went to a building and there were some people there too.
Then I went home, and in our culture after we come back from the Timket we drink bona which is coffee.

THE END.
